Curated Travel Experiences
At Camissa.travel, we never offer or design the same journey twice. Everything starts with you — the black traveler — and what you’re looking for out of a journey to South Africa. For some of our clients, that’s a conventional holiday which would include ‘first time visit’ landmark offerings like Cape Town, Robben Island, Kruger Park and the Garden Route.
For others, the idea is to leave behind all trappings of the modern world with a foray into the wilderness of tropical Isimangaliso or climb the peaks of the Drakensberg. Whatever it is that a black traveler envisions for their visit to South Africa, we are here to plan every component of it for you, according to your budget — from accommodation, to internal flights, to car hire, touring, activities, and dining.
We’ve been doing this a long time, and because we only focus on one country, we will never send you somewhere we haven’t experienced ourselves. Focusing deliberately on Black-owned businesses, our recommendations ensure meaningful, high-quality experiences for the black traveler seeking culturally grounded journeys.
Accommodation
Every accommodation stop we suggest is always personally inspected by us. We will never send you to a place we haven’t stayed ourselves. Additionally, we always ask the hard questions: ‘What does your lowest paid staff member get paid?’ ‘What percentage of the business is Black-owned?’ ‘Do Black-owned companies form part of your procurement process?’ We aim to make every journey more inclusive, especially for the conscious black traveler seeking ethical options aligned with their values.
Wildlife Safaris
We set out to find the most sustainable and ethically-run safari and wildlife experiences that South Africa has to offer.
As with our accommodation supplier questions, we ask: ‘Who owns the land this wildlife experience takes place on?’ ‘Is this experience accredited by any conservation standards?’ and ‘How are local communities impacted?’
These experiences are curated with respect for nature and people, and are ideal for travelers who, like many in the black traveler community, care deeply about legacy and impact — values at the heart of every black traveler experience we create.
Cultural Safaris
South Africa has such an incredible diversity of cultures, cuisines, art, and languages that no one single guide or location can do justice to them all. That’s why at Camissa.travel we design cultural experiences for the black traveler with guides who live, work, and are from the areas they represent.
Our safaris are immersive and meaningful, offering the kind of deep cultural connections that speak especially to the black traveler interested in stories of resilience, heritage, and identity.
Travel logistics
We leave nothing to chance with any aspect of our journeys. We manage accommodation, transfers, flights, car hire, activities — all backed by our experienced in-house team. All our guides are personally vetted and have years of experience in their local areas. Whether you’re traveling solo or in a group, our full-service support ensures that every black traveler can explore South Africa confidently, knowing we’re behind them every step of the way.
Look through our suggested journey types and past trips. These are just a taste—if you have something specific in mind that’s not listed, chances are we’ve done it before and can tailor it exactly to your style.
We’ll begin by preparing a Costing—an outline map of a possible journey for you and your group. This isn’t a final plan but a flexible starting point to shape our conversation.
Once you’re happy with the itinerary, we request a 20% deposit to confirm your bookings. This deposit is refundable up to 30 days before travel. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to departure. We’ll share your confirmed accommodation and activity details before you travel.
When your journey ends, we’ll schedule a debrief meeting with you. Your feedback helps us improve and ensures every future journey is even better.
Reach out to us via email, WhatsApp, or our online form. Share as much as you can about yourself, your travel preferences, and your reasons for wanting to visit South Africa.
Through ongoing discussions (in whichever format suits you), we’ll fine-tune the journey—adjusting what’s included and excluded to match your schedule and budget.
Throughout your journey, we stay in touch daily—sending reminders about where to be, what time activities happen, and offering helpful local tips (like cultural etiquette, dress codes, and tipping advice). Some travellers enjoy this support so much they ask us to keep it up when they’re back home!
